Combining Multiple Course Sections (Course Merge)

Merging Courses

Cross-listed and multiple-sectioned courses in the Blackboard system can be merged to help instructors save time from having to duplicate content for several courses.

Cross-Listed Courses

When cross-listed courses (i.e., they are the same courses but you are teaching them for different departments) are merged, this creates a new (Merged) course in the Blackboard system. The new course will have a “c” appended to the course ID (e.g., 12345.1061c).

Multiple-Sectioned Courses

When multiple sections of a course are merged, this creates a new (Merged) course in the Blackboard system. The new course will have a “m” appended to the course ID (e.g., 12345.1061m).

The new merged course will contain all the student enrollments from the sections merged.

If you would like different sections of your course merged together into one course, please send an email to: ilms@syr.edu. Please include the Course ID’s of all courses that you would like merged together.
