Ordering Books

The bookstore allows instructors to look up textbook information and submit orders for classroom textbooks. To order textbooks for iSchool classes, faculty should first converse with their Program Director/Manager to confirm the use of the text, and to determine if the books have already been ordered. If your Director/Manager did not order them, then you are able to order them using the number or email address below.

Update: September 2018

As of September 25, 2018, there have been issues with the online ordering system directly through the bookstore website, and you should instead call or email using the email address below to place or check on your orders.

Order directly through the SU Bookstore by calling 315-443-9901 or submitting your order via email to textbook@syr.edu

Desk Copy refers to a book furnished free from the publisher for an instructor’s use when copies of that book have been ordered for use in a specific course.

An Examination Copy is a book sent to an instructor from the publisher for consideration for adoption. The book is usually accompanied by or followed by an invoice seeking payment or return of the book within a specific period of time.

The Bookstore does not provide desk or exam copies of textbooks. Instructors are responsible for requesting them directly from publishers.

Instructors seeking to obtain a desk copy should contact the publisher by phone, by email, through their website, or by faxing a Desk Copy Request Form. Please refer to the Publishers List for contact information.

To submit a request directly to the Local Publisher Representative, refer to the Publisher Representatives List for contact information.

If the publisher of the textbook you are adopting or considering for adoption is not listed, please call the Textbook Department at 315-443-9901 or email  textbook@syr.edu and they will provide you with the information.

Publisher desk copy policies vary and are often based upon quantity of student copies ordered. Many small publishers, foreign publishers, distributors and used book suppliers do not provide any desk copies.

Desk copies are shipped to you at your campus address, unless other arrangements are made with the publisher; publishers will not send desk copies to the Bookstore.

When a copy is needed before the desk copy arrives, one may be purchased from the Bookstore and they will give you extended return privileges. They prefer that you return the copy you receive from the publisher as long as it is not marked as a complimentary/instructor copy. Please keep in mind that books taken from the shelves are books unavailable to your students.
